Four steps through Prague is homage to the city of Prague. These poems were originally written in German by me. My good friend Janina Vahl revised them to me. The Portuguese and English versions are mine (so excuse the faillures and be patient). Once again, the city is identified with personal feelings and sensations. At the bottom of its essence a woman's heart throbs. It might mean Prague is a desired woman whose real name is kept half-secret.
________________________________________________________________________I
Es regnet auf Prag.
Der August kommt traurig.
Warum hast du mir nicht gesagt,
dass deine Stimme
fliehendes Wasser geworden ist.
Aber komm ruhig.
Es gibt noch
heißen Kaffee irgendwo
***********
It's raining on Prague.
August comes sadly.
Why didn't you tell me
your voice has become fleeing water?
But come.
There is still
some hot coffee anywhere.
************
Chove em Praga.
Agosto vem triste.
Por que não me disseste
que a tua voz se tornara água a fugir?
Mas vem.
Ainda haverá
café quente nalguma parte.
II
Das letzte Licht der Straße
betracht uns noch.
Prag möchte lernen in deinem Schoß
zu schlafen.
Inzwischen holt die Karlsbrücke
alle Nostalgien ab
************
The last light of the street
is still staring at us.
Prague wants to learn to sleep
on your lap.
Meanwhile the Charles Bridge
is picking all nostalgias up.
************
Contempla-nos ainda
a última luz da rua.
Praga quer apreender a dormir
no teu colo.
Entrementes a ponte de Carlos
recolhe todas as nostalgias.
III
Hört auf zu weinen.
In Prag
sind alle Tränen aus Bier.
Die Moldau
ist heute unterwegs
zu deinem Sex.
In dieser Stadt
schweigen die Sterne
nie
*****************
Stop crying.
In Prague
all tears are made of beer.
The Moldava
is now
on its way to your sex.
In this city
stars are never silent
******************
Para de chorar.
Em Praga
todas as lágrimas são de cerveja.
O Moldava
já vai
caminho do teu sexo.
Nesta cidade
nunca calam as estrelas.
IV
Prag ist alle Nostalgien.
Du bist Prag,
Fluß,
Stimme,
und alle Abwesenheiten.
Nun kommst du nicht,
weil du die Stadt
und der Herbst
und der Abstand bist.
Frau in der Stadt,
wie gern würde ich dich bewohnen
*******************
Prague is all the nostalgias.
You are Prague,
river
voice
and all the absences.
Now you don't come
because you are the city
and the autumn
and the distance.
Woman in the city,
how much I'd love to inhabit you
*******************
Praga é todas as nostalgias.
Tu és Praga,
rio,
voz,
e todas as ausências.
Mas agora não vens
porque és a cidade
e o outono
e a distância.
Mulher na cidade,
como gostaria de morar-te.
